In Romania, funded support for children with special needs is worryingly inadequate. However, FARA offers a range of specialist services to support mental and physical disabilities to children from just a few months old to 16 years old.
FARA’s specialist Therapy Centres run programmes at the Samuel Centre in Bucharest and St. Teresa's Centre and Emmanuel Centre in Suceava County.
Thanks to FARA's efforts, each month we help up to 180 children with special needs aged 0–16 years old.
Over the course of a year, approximately 40 are integrated for the first time into mainstream schools or kindergarten.
By supporting children in this way, we often see vast improvements in their wellbeing. In addition, parents develop an increased confidence in their child’s abilities and as a result, they feel ready to send their children to mainstream schools. In turn, gaining this vital education helps to tackle the extreme poverty the country faces.
